Spa Day/Happy Holidays!

Not much new going on here.  Jamie is working night shift and so very, very tired that she's not been able to update this blog as much as she'd like.

Christmas was uneventful here but I did get a basted center bone and yum, I love those things.  Almost as much as power cords (which I have an unfortunate proclivity to chew).

I got a "spa" day today at the groomer's.  Here's my "before" picture:

"Oliver Twist ain't got nothing on my super-duper pauper look."

And after:
"Ok, you may take my picture, silly human."

"Are you blinded by the cuteness factor yet?  No?  Well you darn well should be. "

Did I tell you I'm nine months old now?  Yes, and right on cue, I seem to be going through the "terrible teens."  But with a face like mine, I'm sure Jamie will forgive me.  Because I'm that cute.

Thank you, dear readers!

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted here. I've been working a wonky 12  hour night shift and getting so very little sleep it's a wonder I'm still alive.

Ziggy is growing up and is 8 months old now.  He has taken to barking a the postal people (we keep him indoors--it's just when he hears them coming to the door) and had his first "sleep over" at the pet sitter's house when we went up to Whistler, BC for the weekend.  I think he enjoyed playing with the dog... but I think he probably terrorized the cats.

Here's a couple pictures to tide you over while I get my act together and take more decent photos.
"I'm outta here."

"Did someone say "treats"?"

knitterly supervisor

Puppy not included.

better late than never

Remember me?  This is me at eight weeks old.  How time flies!
Hi ya there, it's Ziggy again.  Jamie got a New Job and is working night shift, so haven't been able to update as often as I'd like (wish I knew her password so I could sneak onto the internet at night when she's working).

I thought you'd all appreciate some pictures of me, since it's been a few months.  I'm doing fine, sassy as ever!

Why me?  Please let me out.

Yes, I am a handsome boy.

Ziggy got his first grooming today and looks absolutely adorable.  The photos really don't do him justice; he likes to try to attack the camera whenever I try to take pictures of him.

"How cute am I?

"It's tough work being this cute."

"...But you practically need a PhD in cuteness to look like this."

Knitterly supervisor

Jamie knits.  Ziggy "supervises."

"This knitting doesn't look so difficult..."

"Can I help you with something?"

"Yes, I'm quite comfortable, thank you."

"You want me to get up when I look this  cute?  Surely not!"

Daydreaming.

"Make my day.  I dare you."

The dreaded snip, snip.

Jamie here, filling in for Ziggy again.

Ziggy went in for his neuter and microchipping this weekend and did well with anesthesia--just a little hoarseness from the breathing tube--so he kind of mewled and squeaked rather than barked and "aroo'ed" for a couple of days.  But he was chipper and spunky as ever when I took him home, with a great appetite, as usual.

He escaped the dreaded e-collar because he was so miserable looking in it and he didn't bother the surgical incision site at all.  We go back to the dog-tor for a check up this weekend but I think he'll be just fine.

We'll post with pictures soon!  Ziggy is growing like a weed and finally can go up the stairs outside of the house (we're still working on going down the stairs with confidence).  Love him to pieces.  Bark at you later.

Fantastic fifteen!

Jamie here, filling in for Mr. Ziggy.

Ziggy will be fifteen weeks tomorrow and is truly capturing my heart more and
more each day. He's adjusted well to staying in his kennel while I am at work,
and having the pet sitter come and take him out instead. This week I am working
12p-1030p.m. so it's late when I come home and Ziggy zooms around the living
room in sheer delight after I release him from the kennel. I feel badly that I
then have to turn around and crate him again in an hour or so when I go to bed,
but he rarely complains about being put in the kennel any more, and if he does,
it's short and sweet... but I figure many dogs are confined to their crate all
day long and they, too, adjust.

He's a very vocal puppy who likes to bark when he's playing (even by himself
with his toys) and barks particularly hard at the Kong Wobbler once the kibble
is gone. It's as if he's mad that he's pushing it around and the toy isn't
producing kibble anymore--drat it! "How dare the Kong Wobbler defy me and not
produce kibble?!" Ziggy seems to be saying. I guess Ziggy's just a socialite who
loves a good running banter between you, him, and the food dish you're preparing ;-).

He is (knock on wood) doing better in the housetraining department than last
week, when he had a few accidents. While most of it is still management, he
does ask to go outside some of the time, and I think it's starting to sink in
that outside = potty area since I take him to the exact same spot time after
time. No accidents in his kennel this week, either (there have been a couple
over the course of time, but in general he doesn't mess in there).

I've ratcheted down my puppy kindergarten expectations a great deal and mostly
see it as an opportunity for him to meet other people and other puppies and
socialize, with a wee bit of training thrown in as a side benefit. I know some
puppies are able to do amazing amounts of things at his age, but Ziggy is Ziggy
and we're just happy he's his bright, cheerful, optimistic and opinionated
self--the obedience stuff will sink in later, though of course we're setting the
foundation now.

Also, he's growing like a weed. I had to buy the next size up harness for him,
and he's already had to have it loosened around the belly once. I also had to
buy him another collar as he was outgrowing his puppy collar.

To celebrate the Fourth of July, we're taking him down to the near the water,
just for the treat of taking him on a long walk (with my hours and the
weather competing for walk time, he's been sadly short changed this week). He hasn't
had any reaction to the random fireworks shot off in anticipation of the Fourth
around the neighborhood, so I'm hopeful he'll remain calm and unflappable during
the fireworks tonight, though of course we won't be bringing him to see the
fireworks. I probably won't even go, as traffic is likely to be a nightmare and
so forth.

And that's Ziggy in a nutshell at fifteen weeks. Can't believe he's going to be
four months old next week... where did the time go?

Pausing to pose

"Yes?"

"Now what?"

"Won't even this goofy pose make you go away?"

"Speak to the paw!"

"Oh, alright, I give up.  Take your stupid picture, then."

13's a lucky number!

When you're thirteen weeks old, like I am today, it's a lucky number!

"I don't like what I'm hearing."

Listening intently.

"My picture, again????"

Sassing.

"I am adorable."

Sleepy puppy.

Sweet puppy.

friends without benefits

Hi, there.  Ziggy, here.  Sorry it's been awhile since I've updated my blog, but Jamie is busy with something she calls a new job.  This means I stay in my kennel and get walked and fed three times a day by a nice lady who isn't Jamie, but I hardly see Jamie at all during the week now.  So I am forced to catch up on my napping and beauty rest, and am rarin' to go when she comes back home from her job.  We  do go for lovely walks when she's around, though.

Don't worry.  I have been helping Jamie with her "new job," giving her advice as to her new benefits package.  It went something like this:

(Jamie was not pleased with my advice, if you must know).

Well, if first one's strategy doesn't work...

... just pick the whole darn thing up and tip it over...

How to play the Trixie interactive game in five easy steps, with revised rules, by Ziggy.

Step One:  Play game in fashion humans apparently intended for such a silly trifle of plastic.

Step two:  Glance up at human to make sure she knows how hard you're working on this.  Anticipate a forthcoming cookie.

Step three :  Get increasingly fed up with human's fascination with plastic gadgetry.  Try ignoring stupid human instructions.
Step four  Just tip the darn thing over.  Worked for me.
Step Five:  (optional) Go back to repository under couch.  Look as cute/pathetic as possible to score more treats.

Ziggy Update

Jamie here, filling in for Ziggy, who is currently too busy playing with his toys and causing a general ruckus to be bothered with such boring, mundane tasks as updating his own blog.

It's been about a month since I got Ziggy, and just this week he finally started sleeping through the night.  At the first few nights, I was up all night, every few hours, taking him outside.  Knock on wood, I hope he continues this trend of sleeping through the night.  (He wakes up around dawn, meaning I'm up around 0530 or 0600--this doesn't amuse me, but what can I do about it?  Nothing.  Just stifle a yawn, grab his leash, and get sweet puppy kisses in return.)

He also prefers to eat out of puzzle toys, and has totally figured out his Nina Ottosson Dog Brick Toy and Kong Wobbler.  Give him fresh dog food in a bowl, even the good stuff, and he'll eat a bite or two and then walk away.  Give him stale (ok, so I don't really feed him stale food) kibble in his Kong Wobbler, and he's all over it.  Go figure.

We're still working on leash walking.  For the most part, he doesn't pull on the leash.  Oh no.  Not Ziggy.  That would be too blase.  No, he has to balk.  I like to joke that I take him not on a walk, but a balk.  He wants to go where he pleases, and sometimes he'll have the attention span to more or less walk with me, and other times, not so much.

Also figured out he hates downpours.  Swell. A dog, who lives in Seattle, which is like, Rain City Capitol, and he hates rain.

Ditto with bath time, nail clipping, and brushing.  Lots of fun we're having these days.

But he is a fun little chap, and with any luck, one day, we'll get to that wonderful place called adulthood sanity.

Signing off,

Jamie

The Eleventh Hour.

... or rather, week!  I'm eleven weeks old today!  And what a ride it's been!

Here's some photos of me:

Why yes, this purple thing is delicious . Why do you ask?

Yes?

I can't look any cuter than this.

Oh wait, perhaps I can.

Puppy school

I had my first puppy lesson today and boy was it fun!  Afterwards, I got to play with some other dogs.  This is me at play time, near tuckered out:

And a couple more of me:

I'm going to go take a long nap now, folks!  Bark at you later!
